Journalism industry is one of the fastest growing industry in Kenya. The high demand of information, education & entertainment by the members of the public has led to an increased number of media houses in Kenya. Kenya’s media landscape is diverse, sophisticated and well financed. The radio sector is having over 300 stations, and the TV sector is having over 50 free-to-air stations. There are several print media publications both online and offline. All these Media platforms are in great demand of professional journalist, camerapersons, producers, editors, scriptwriters, directors, writers among other media personnel.
It is on this background that Sacred Heart Institute of Education & Professional Studies department of Journalism has committed itself in bridging the gap of qualified professionals.
The department offers six different programmes that aims at producing professional media personnel, which include:
- Diploma in Print Journalism
- Diploma in Broadcast Journalism
- Diploma in Digital Journalism
- Diploma in film Production
- Diploma in Public Relations
- Certificate in Journalism and Media
The programmes lead to a career in Public Relations Officers, newspaper, Radio and Television journalist, Filmmakers and video editors.
All diploma programmes take a period of 2 years with a compulsory industrial attachment of 3 months. Certificate programmes takes a period of ONE year with a compulsory industrial attachment of three month.
The programme Objectives aims at:
- Providing practical professional skills required to be a broadcast journalist.
- Providing skills for presenting information to the members of the public.
- Providing skills to research, writing and presenting accurate information.
- Providing skills of understanding theoretical & practical aspect of an organization and its public.
